What camera should I get?

My digital camcorder stoped working a month ago… pretty bad, since I have a huge vacation coming up, and definetly wanted to film a little! So I´m now wondering which new camcorder to get… I did a little price comparison on digital cameras, but I don´t really know, what I should get. Does anyone of you have a good tip for me here? I think, I´ll stick with a Sony again - but I just don´t know which to get.

My new Poker Blog

I know, I know - I haven´t posting here for quite a while, but to be honest - I´m just not that interested anymore in digital cameras and stuff… Or at least not so much, that I can blog about it every day.
But I found a new passion in poker! I´ve been playing a lot the last couple of month (mostly over the internet, but I also participated in some live tournaments), and I really became an avid player!
I´m reading a lot about poker, too, and so I decided to start up a new blog - and so here´s my new poker blog - check it out! I promise to update the blog more often then this one here :-)
I hope you like it!

Intel-Mac running on windows?

I just ran over a video that shows the windows OS running on an Intel-Mac. I personally think it´s a hoax, since the video quality seems to be a little too bad… There´s a 12k USD grand prize for anyone, who can start a windows OS on an Intel-Mac - strange that the user “narf2006″, who published the video, didn´t turn in the code to the competition. (Take a look at PokerSpielen)
I wonder, how windows XP can handle the BIOS successor EFI, which Macs run on, but XP doesn´t support at all? I heard of a guy from IBM, who wrote a software emulating the BIOS for windows - but this solution has also not been published yet. I will watch this thing more closely in the next month - that could get quite interesting.

Showcase your talent

Red Bull is known for always searching for new and innovative sponsoring possibilities. With RedBull Rough Cuts Red Bull enters a whole different form of sponsoring, giving ambitioned video editors the possibility to showcase their visual talents by editing (supposed to be) great a-roll skiing footage to a 3 minute masterpiece.
Everything is allowed, as long as it´s new, fresh larp and state-of-the-art - great idea! Submissions are welcome until April 15 (also from people in schweden), so get your grip on the footage and start editing! Just head for the website for further information about the contest - good luck!

Heading for the champions league…

I still haven´t bought a new camera, since the time ran out on me, having to go to New York. So I just took the camera of my girlfriend - does not make the best pictures, but sure is more handy then a huge digital camera like the F828 I had before.
But now I´m definetly off on buying a new camera. And since I could afford spending some money on it, I think about changing to the champions league by getting a Canon D5 digital camera! Nice… :-)
They have that great offer right now, and I really think about getting it! It´s a real great camera, and I enjoy making pictures so why setteling for less? Ok, it comes a little unhandy, but who cares - the pictures are just phenomenal! Does anyone own a camera like that? Or maybe the smaller model going by the product code D20? I would love to hear some reviews of you people on the Canon D5!

New York - here I come…

I´ll be in New York for the next week, attending a conference. I don´t think, I´ll be abloe to blog while I´m there, so please don´t wonder, if theré´s nothing new here the next week. I´ll be back on the 6th of march, so stay tuned… :-)

- oh, and thanks for the replies on my last post! I think I´ll buy the new sony camera - never change a running system :-)

Sony again?

Now this post is going to be a more personal - since someone stole my Sony F828 digital camera on the flight to Johannesburg (yeah, I know - lever leave your equipment in your suitcase!), and I head to New York the next week, I got to buy a new digital camera. Right now, I think about the follow-up model - the DSC-R1 - or maybe a Nikon D70 oder Canon E350. What do you think? I was really happy with the F828, but I don´t know if I can get used to the kind of akward Congstar Prepaid design of the new model, with the screen on the top etc. But from the technical standpoint it really sounds, that they made a real good follow-up model to the F828.
But on the other hand, the Nikon and Canon also sound great… I don´t really know what to do. Does anyone got the new R1-Model, and was a former addict of the F828 as well? It´d be great, if someone could email me his impressions on that case…

New Generation Entry-Level Cameras

The entry-level for digital cameras seems to speed up a notch with kodak releasing 5- and 6-megapixel digital cameras for the mass market. I remember buying my first “take it with me to the clubs” - digital camera with only 1 megapixel! Now the entry-level already got 6 megapixels, which in my opinion is a bit oversized for the amateur user. Just yesterday I received an email from my dad with a 4 megabyte image attached to it. My dad just attached the image he got right out of his new camera - nice going… What do I need a huge 4 megabyte picture for? I would have been totaly fine with a 640×480 pixel image of my dad and mum in front of their new house - I don´t got to see that poster-size :-)

Pinnacle Studio 10.5 Update

Pinnacle just released the 10.5 update of their widely popular (especially in germany) Pinnacle Studio video editing software. I´m a big fan of the software, since it was the first video editing software I used when I started cutting videos. My girlfriend is still using it, since it gives her the possibility to cut simple videos really easy.
But unfortunatly I had to battle with loads of software-errors, especially when handling big files. So the software will just stop working at least once a day, which is kind of frustrating. But Pinnacle promises, that those days are finally over, and the software will run now more stable then ever. The startup must also be a lot faster now. I didn´t get the update yet, but I definetly gonna install it right away - my girlfriend will be very happy about that :-)

6-megapixel camera phone

Holy cow - the war for the biggest-resolution-camera-phone just reached another level. Grundig Mobile presented a 6-megapixel camera phone to the press at the 3GM World Congress in Barcelona. Also the video-quality must be in better quality then ever, if you believe what experts report from the conference. The X5000, as the 6-megapixel monster is called, also got a 4x digital zoom, a LED Flashlight and a lot of options only regular digital cameras offer at the moment. So there are 22 different record modes, for day- night- and even sportshoots. I wonder how long it will be, till we all got 10-megapixel cameras in our pockets - right now the race for resolution seems to be the most important for mobile phone companies.
