Pinnacle Studio 10.5 Update

Pinnacle just released the 10.5 update of their widely popular (especially in germany) Pinnacle Studio video editing software. I´m a big fan of the software, since it was the first video editing software I used when I started cutting videos. My girlfriend is still using it, since it gives her the possibility to cut simple videos really easy.
But unfortunatly I had to battle with loads of software-errors, especially when handling big files. So the software will just stop working at least once a day, which is kind of frustrating. But Pinnacle promises, that those days are finally over, and the software will run now more stable then ever. The startup must also be a lot faster now. I didn´t get the update yet, but I definetly gonna install it right away - my girlfriend will be very happy about that :-)

What a joke! I just installed Pinnacle Studio. version 10.5 It captured from camcorder o.k. but once you go to EDIT nothing works. It can not open the .avi file, in fact it can not open any file. You can make a title but not put it on the timeline. In fact you can not put anything on the timeline. No music, no transitions, no menus. In other words: Useless. My system is fine lots of power. Used v.10.1.2 ok with its problems. How about it Pinnacle. Shall I say good bye after many years of loyal usage?

That´s strange Garry, I just installed the update and got no problems anymore. I had a lot of troubles with the last version, and I always had to calm down my girlfriend, having lost unsaved work more than once. But now everything seems to work fine… sorry to hear you still got the troubles!
But I agree with you - Pinnacle should really speed up on the bugfixing - it´s version 10 for crying out loud, they should do a lot better then this by now!

I have also been a Pinnacle user from the earliest versions. I upgraded to Pinnacle Studio v10 and was surprised how long the program took to load. Downloaded and installed v10.5 upgrade and it seems to require a lot more video power. Preview got very choppy, like slow motion, and was so bad the audio seemed totally out of sync.
If I had not upgraded to a HD Video camera, I would have already gone back to Studio 9. Sony’s Vegas Movie Studio seems to be a superior product but the learning curve is tough and I have been doing video for over 10 years.

I installed the 10.5 update now Studio will not even start. Just gives an error:
“The procedure entry point GetProcessImageFileNameW could not be located in the dynamic link library PSAPI.DLL”

Pinnacle software’s usability is great, but stability is still worse than most.

Same V10.5 problem as M.Young due to overloading on my PC. V10.5 runs perfectly on a laptop (don’t tell Pinnacle)with 1/2 the speed and memory (only 50% loading)…strange! I keep hoping. I have been trying to edit 1920’s family films since November with minimal sucess (someting always goes bad: crashes, files that won’t load, etc). Spent 200 hrs. P’s phone is always busy!!! My PC is 2.4G P5 with 1G memory and a FX5200 Video card.

  • Tom Kimberly:

I just submitted a comment saying I have same 10.5 problems on my PC as M. Young, but V10.5 runs perfectly on my laptop at 1/2 its speed and power. Perhaps this (or both) will get posted.
I suspect the Video card sucks up the processing power.

  • Marcus:

Sorry Tom for the delay -
I get flodded with comment spam, so I you were two comments out of a hundred spammy ones…
Takes time to filter the good comments out.
I still don´t have any troubles with the programs - it seems, V10.5 only runs great on certain configurations… Pinnacle should really have a look at that!

I installed MSInternet Explorer 7 Beta, and I was getting this error message:
“SmartBridge Alerts: MotiveSB.exe - Entry Point Not Found. The procedure entry point GetProcessImageFileNameW could not be located
in the dynamic link library PSAPI.DLL”
After deleting the SBC Self Support Tool, the error no longer appears. I have not yet tried performing a clean install of the self support tool to see if it will run correctly if installed AFTER the new Internet Explorer is installed, but solving the error is gratifying.

I used Studio 8.12 with no problems and went back to it after I tried 10.5. 10.5 takes forever to load and I didn’t see any difference in the editting. I tried to get the 10.6 update and when i installed it Studio would not even load I got an erroe message. And to add insult to injury I ended up with a Trojan and was forced to completely wipe the hard drive and reinstall everything; except 10.5!
I think Studio 10.5 is nothing but garbage and a waste of money (I have yet to receive the rebates I sent for).
It isn’t the first time i’ve had trouble with their website either. Previously when I’ve been checking out various products, my security software has given me a warning that my computer was trying to send out one of my CC numbers and ther was noreason for it to be sent and luckily I could stop it from happening.
